Vulnerability Summary for CVE-2010-0622

Original release date: 02/15/2010
Last revised: 03/19/2012
Source: US-CERT/NIST

Overview

The wake_futex_pi function in kernel/futex.c in the Linux kernel before 2.6.33-rc7 does not properly handle certain unlock operations for a Priority Inheritance (PI) futex, which allows local users to cause a denial of service (OOPS) and possibly have unspecified other impact via vectors involving modification of the futex value from user space.

Impact

CVSS Severity (version 2.0):
CVSS v2 Base Score: 2.1 (LOW) (AV:L/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:P) (legend)
Impact Subscore: 2.9
Exploitability Subscore: 3.9
CVSS Version 2 Metrics:
Access Vector: Locally exploitable
Access Complexity: Low
Authentication: Not required to exploit
Impact Type: Allows disruption of service

Vendor Statements (disclaimer)

Official Statement from Red Hat (03/12/2010)
Red Hat is aware of this issue and is tracking it via the following bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/CVE-2010-0622. This issue did not affect the versions of Linux kernel as shipped with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 and 4, as they do not include support for priority-inheriting futex. Future updates in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and Red Hat Enterprise MRG may address this flaw.
