Vulnerability Summary for CVE-2013-0290

Original release date: 02/19/2013
Last revised: 09/11/2013
Source: US-CERT/NIST

Overview

The __skb_recv_datagram function in net/core/datagram.c in the Linux kernel before 3.8 does not properly handle the MSG_PEEK flag with zero-length data, which allows local users to cause a denial of service (infinite loop and system hang) via a crafted application.

Impact

CVSS Severity (version 2.0):
CVSS v2 Base Score: 4.9 (MEDIUM) (AV:L/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:C) (legend)
Impact Subscore: 6.9
Exploitability Subscore: 3.9
CVSS Version 2 Metrics:
Access Vector: Locally exploitable
Access Complexity: Low
Authentication: Not required to exploit
Impact Type: Allows disruption of service
